Sabiha Akter Monny specialises in Renewable energy, Energy conversion, and nanomaterials.

Her research focuses on developing photocatalysts using semiconductor nanomaterials for photoelectrochemical energy conversion. In photoelectrochemical water splitting, hydrogen is produced from water using sunlight and specialized nanostructured semiconductors, which use light energy to dissociate water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. 

​Sabiha's academic journey began in 2009 when she was awarded the prestigious Yayasan Khazanah Scholarship to pursue her Bachelor degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Malaysia. At UNITEN she secured her position in the Dean's list during seven semesters out of eight semesters (2009-2013).She joined as Research Assistant at University of Malaya (UM) in 2013 as well as proceeded to advance her educational pursuit in Master of Engineering Science (MEngSc) and received Graduate Research Assistantship Scheme grant to support her study (2013-2016). She was also awarded HIR (High Impact Research) Bright Spark scholarship due to her academic performance.

After completing MEngSc, Sabiha Akter Monny has received Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship at the University of Queensland and currently doing her PhD under supervision of Professor Lianzhou Wang.
