Fibroblast cell culturing in 3D hybrid polyisocyanide gels.

A new type of material recently discovered by our group has been shown to have the unique properties needed to develop a whole new class of cell culture systems. It is based on a fully synthetic, biomimetic, physically cross-linked soft hydrogel derived from helical oligo(ethylene)glycolpolyisocyano-peptides (PIC). My research focusses on the creation of 3D hybrid PIC gels to improve mechanical properties and tunability of this polymer gel. The created gels are tested on their capacity to culture cells within them for application in tissue engineering and cells will be analyzed on their viability, migration and extracellular matrix production.
