Nanoarchitectured metallic mateials: Synthesis of mesoporous noble metal/alloy by chemical approaches

Mesoporous noble metals have extremely high surface area as well as abundant active sites such as atomic steps and kinks, and they can enhance their inherent catalytic activity. He has synthesized mesoporous Pt, Pd, Rh, Ru, and their alloys. Recently, his mesoporous Rh has shown excellent activity towards NO remediation under lean-burn condition, and it can be used as prominent electrode catalysts for various electrochemical reactions, such as methanol oxidation reaction, CO oxidation/reduction, and hydrogen evolution reaction. For the future, he plans to apply this method to other metals and alloys, and further control mesostructures to explore new promising catalysts.

​Kenya Kani earned B.S. degree (2017) in Department of Life and Materials Engineering at Nagoya Institute of Technology (NIT), Japan. After the graduation from NIT, he commenced his PhD course in the Institute at University of Wollongong. During PhD course, he also studied at National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Japan as a trainee and learned techniques on synthesis of mesoporous materials. From April 2018, he moved to the University of Queensland with Professor Yusuke Yamauchi and he started the second year of the AIBN PhD course.
