Investigating the role of the complement system in cancer

Dr Manthey has over 10 years’ experience in the fields of pharmacology, vascular biology and immunology.  She was the first person to demonstrate a role for complement C5a in a mouse model of atherosclerosis, using an antagonist developed at UQ.  In the last 4 years, working with Dr Barbara Rolfe, she has been involved with investigating the role of complement in cancer, and is a contributor on the patent arising from this work.

While working in the field of vascular biology she was also involved in testing novel imaging techniques for visualisation of atherosclerosis in mice and elucidating the role of chemokine receptor 6 (CCR6) in atherosclerosis.  She has expertise in numerous animal models of inflammatory disease such as endotoxic shock, atherosclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease, melanoma and breast cancer as well as a broad range of biological techniques, in particular, flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry.​
