Uptake of nanoparticles by plant and plant cell
Jiaxi Yong's research focuses on plant-nanoparticle interaction, for example, the uptake and translocate of nanoparticle in plant and plant cell and the side effects like ROS caused by nanoparticles, to obtain deeper knowledge for the design of better nanoparticles delivery system for plant.
Nanoparticles act as vehicles to deliver chemicals and biomolecules have drawn much attention in the recent years. The nanoparticle delivery system for plant is of great promise due to the high efficiency, low cytotoxicity with a wide range of applicable plants. Several families of nanoparticles such as carbon nanotube (CNT), mesporous silica nanoparticle (MSN), metal oxides and layered double hydroxides (LDHs) have been adopted for gene, protein and chemical delivery in plant. However, instinct structures of plant, such as cell wall hindered the successful application of nanoparticles in plant in many cases. Meanwhile, lacking the detailed information in plant-nanoparticle interaction impeded the design of nanoparticle delivery system for plant application.
