​Dr. Sidong Yang specialises in Intervertebral disc degeneration and its regeneration using a bioengineering way.

Dr. Sidong Yang has secured 7 research grants, more than 400,000 AUD to support his research on intervertebral disc degeneration and regeneration. So far, Dr. Yang has co-authored 96 important scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals. Among half of those papers, Dr. Yang is a first author, last author or corresponding author. Dr. Yang is now working as an associate editor for European Journal of Medical Research, and a guest editor for a few journals including Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, Mediators of Inflammation, Pain Research and Management, and Journal of Visualized Experiment (JoVE). As an invited reviewer, Dr. Yang has peer reviewed more than 60 submissions for 30 international journals.

In 2011, Dr. Sidong Yang was conferred with a Bachelor's degree of Medicine after his five-year study in Hebei Medical University, China. He then continued another three years' further study in Hebei Medical University and earned his Master's degree of Surgery in 2014. Since then, he joined The Third Hospital of Hebei Medical University and has been working as an Orthopaedic Surgeon. Meanwhile, he received specialist training for orthopaedic surgeons during 2014-2017 in The Third Hospital of Hebei Medical University. In August 2018, he began to work as a visiting academic in ANZAC Research Institute, The University of Sydney. In September 2019, he joined Cooper-White group and worked as a visiting academic in Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN), The University of Queensland. In January 2020, Dr. Sidong Yang formally commenced his PhD study in AIBN, The University of Queensland, with Prof. Justin Cooper-White being his principal supervisor.
