Autologous adult stem cell products have the potential to significantly change the way we age or recover from injury. Achieving this potential requires manufacturing methods that consistently make enough high-quality, functional cells for each recipient in a cost-effective manner. By discovering biomaterials that can mimic critical components of the 'niche' in which they reside and specifically engage their 'sugar-coated' surfaces, this project aims to create novel, scalable, and translatable culture substrates that achieve long-term, multipotent expansion of adult stem cells. Outcomes of this project will be of substantive benefit to the burgeoning cell-manufacturing industry and significantly impact on our healthspan and quality of life.
