The seventh in AIBN’s Thought Leaders’ dinner series took place at Stamford Plaza in Brisbane on the evening of Thursday 16 October 2014. Attendees at the dinner included a strong contingent of senior members of AIBN staff, along with guests representing executive management from a range of local, interstate and international companies.
Special guest speaker for the night was Professor John Shine. Professor Shine was Executive Director of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research from 1990 until the end of 2011 and is Professor of Medicine and Professor of Molecular Biology at the University of NSW.
He is a past Chairman of the National Health and Medical Research Council, past president of the Australian Genome Research Facility, and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science. He is an Officer in the Order of Australia and until 2011 a member of the Prime Minister’s Science, Engineering and Innovation Council. As well as Chairman of CSL, he is currently President of the Museum of Applied Arts and Science (Powerhouse Museum and Sydney Observatory).
In 2010, Professor Shine was awarded the Prime Minister’s Prize for Science, the nation’s highest scientific award.
