Over the past 10 years, Amyris has built the world’s most advanced high-throughput automated strain engineering and fermentation platform which have enabled the company to bring several molecules to commercial fermentation scale. As biotechnology companies grow, so will the number and complexity of molecules they need to develop. Pressure to deliver a successful molecule on time and within budget will mount and put added strain on a company’s ability to deliver. Amyris is developing a primarily automated strain improvement cycle, incorporating machine learning algorithms to close the design-built-test loop for metabolic engineering. This talk will outline advances in programming languages for genetics and AI approaches to automate development of microorganisms.
