Froylan specialises in industrial biotechnology

Froylan Garnica Garcia is a PhD student at the University of Queensland. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology Engineering and a Master's in Biotechnology Research Extensive. He also has over two years of experience as an R&D scientist, from which he brings a strong background in research and development to his current studies. During his undergraduate studies at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Froylan was honoured with the "Borrego de Oro" award. This is the institution's highest accolade for professional development, showcasing his dedication to excellence. His PhD research focuses on the profitable upcycling of genetically modified biomass from precision fermentation. He aims to contribute to a more circular bioeconomy and, at the same time, bring profit to the industry.

Industry

Froylan worked for two years at New Edge Microbials (Australia) as a biotechnology engineer in the R&D department. Plant duties: He oversaw the industrial production of microorganisms for biocontrol, where he oversaw production from a scientific perspective and scaled up the systems from a laboratory to an industrial scale. Lab duties: Worked alongside the head scientist in research and experimentation, which consisted of the isolation of microbes, growth monitoring, survival, and data analysis.
