Chrystal's research focuses on collecting and analysing functional and structural brain imaging data, including MRI, to understand the neural mechanisms underlying complex PTSD, a recently recognised condition distinct from typical PTSD.

Chrystal has worked clinically and in research as a dual qualified nuclear medicine technologist and MRI radiographer. Her current role as Clinical Head of Teaching and Learning allows her to develop new courses and teach into the program. Her recent focus has been in the scope of scholarship of teaching whereby she is passionate and focused on PTSD and C-PTSD response to fMRI data.
