Microfluidics-Based Microgels, Granular Hydrogels, Polymer Science, and Soft Robotics

Microgels derived from natural or synthetic hydrogels have attracted considerable attention as versatile carriers for cells and drugs, holding great promise in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Granular hydrogels, formed through the bottom-up assembly of microgels, represent a novel class of microporous platforms for cell culture and delivery. The overarching aim of Changjiang Liu’s PhD work is to develop innovative fabrication strategies—such as radical-free and surfactant-free methods—to minimize cytotoxicity during preparation, expand the biomedical applications of cell-laden microgels, and elucidate how their microscale properties influence biomedical outcomes. 2017–2021, Sun Yat-Sen University, China.
