Specialises in cell migration, cytoskeleton biology and light controlled cell biology tools.

Joyce Meiring studied biomedical science at the University of Queensland. She received her PhD in cell biology with Prof. Peter Gunning from the University of New South Wales in 2018. In 2019 she moved to the Netherlands for a postdoc in the lab of Prof. Anna Akhmanova at Utrecht University. Here she spent 7 years studying the role of microtubules in cell migration and developing optogenetic tools for the manipulation of the cytoskeleton. She has been a postdoc with Samantha Stehbens since May 2026.
