Unlocking microbial chemical diversity through integrated metabolomics and multi-omics approaches to discover bioactive molecules for sustainable health and environmental applications.
Dr Amila Agampodi Dewa is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) Biosustainability Hub, The University of Queensland. Her research focuses on unlocking microbial chemical diversity to discover novel bioactive natural products with applications in human health, animal health, plant health, and environmental sustainability. Dr Agampodi Dewa completed her PhD in Natural Products Chemistry at The University of Queensland in 2022 under the supervision of Professor Rob Capon and Dr Zeinab Khalil. Her research integrates microbial cultivation, metabolomics, genomics, mass spectrometry, bioinformatics, and natural products chemistry to identify and characterise new microbial metabolites. He has extensive expertise in high-resolution mass spectrometry, multi-omics metabolomic approaches, NMR spectroscopy, microbial biodiscovery, and natural product discovery. She has also developed advanced workflows combining metabolomics and multi-omics approaches to accelerate the discovery of new chemistry from Australian marine and terrestrial microorganisms. Currently, Dr Agampodi Dewa leads research projects focused on translating microbial chemical diversity into bio-sustainable solutions, while supervising postgraduate researchers and collaborating with academic and industry partners to advance microbial-derived innovations.
