Development of natural plant extracts-encapsulated nanoplatforms for bacteria control in fish
Guanyu Hao's research focuses on the development of natural plant extracts-encapsulated nanoplatforms for bacteria control in fish. Demand for food has dramatically increased with the rapid increase in population and economy, Thus, antibiotics have been used to control bacterial diseases in fish which resulted in the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and even superbugs that raise a serious threat to environment and human/animal health. Finding an effective way without the addition of antibiotics to protect fish against disease is critically important for controlling this emerging environment and human health challenge.
Guanyu Hao's PhD project aims to develop efficient and cost-effective multifunctional nanoparticles (NPs) to load natural antimicrobial compounds (with excellent antimicrobial) as nano-supplements in fish feed to protect them against bacterial-induced diseases on the farm.
