Cellular responses to microgravity

Jonathon Egan's research will involve the study of stem cell behaviour in microgravity to understand the physical, genetic and biochemical mechanisms behind the health defects (i.e. loss of bone density) observed in astronauts following their exposure to the microgravity envrionment found in space. My project employs a combination of 3D cell culture, analysis and microscopy techniques to observe the effects  of simulated microgravity on cellular structure, function and growth over time.
