At the AIBN, we know some of the most spectacular sights in science start out as specs on a glass slide, only seen when magnified.

That’s why we hold an annual image contest to find the best images taken using our fantastic array of imaging equipment and microscopes. This year we've collated these images in a calendar to give away to our newsletter subscribers.

Our shortlist, highlighted in this calendar, include photos of glowing neural networks, lab-grown brains and a look inside a famous flower, proving that some of the most spectacular science occurs on the very smallest of scales.
