Our breakthrough solar power technology – a flexible, printable ‘skin’ that can be applied to hard surfaces – has set a world record for the conversion of solar energy to electricity.
Tiny nanoparticles called quantum dots pass electrons between one another and generate electrical current when exposed to solar energy in a solar cell device.
Conventional solar technologies use rigid, expensive materials. The new class of quantum dots AIBN has developed are paper-thin, flexible, printable, and most importantly, commercially viable.
They can be printed in large volumes like wallpaper. The potential applications of this transparent skin as a personal energy source are endless – from wrapping around cars, planes and homes, to wearing it on our clothes.
This team is working with US and local companies to develop new generation lighting/energy-saving products and is expected to reach the market in the next couple of years.
