Joseph's research focuses on utilising systems biology in optimising the flux of high-value terpenoids in the cyanobacteria strain Synechococcus elongatus
Joseph's PhD involves culturing multiple cyanobacteria strains in different reactor systems. These strains are sourced from Bondi Bio, the industry partner he is collaborating with for his PhD. Through this collaboration, it is hoped that utlising systems biology, bottlenecks in the terpenoid pathway are found, and genetic engineering strategies are relayed back to Bondi Bio for greater yield of terpenoids.
Joseph graduated with a Bachelor's of Engineering/Masters of Engineering, majoring in chemical and biological engineering, from The University of Queensland in 2020.
