Oestreich Group

Intersection of clinical neuroimaging, psychiatry, neurology, clinical and biological psychology, and computational neuroscience.

The Oestreich Group, led by Dr. Lena Oestreich, conducts highly interdisciplinary research at the intersection of clinical neuroimaging, psychiatry, neurology, clinical and biological psychology, and computational neuroscience.

Worldwide, rates of mental illness are at an unprecedented high. Yet, our understanding of the mechanisms causing mental illness has not advanced substantially, despite decades of research and funding in this area. Our group studies mental illness using Big Data and advanced, multimodal neuroimaging methods at a scale not previously been possible.

Research Focus

More recently, research in the Oestreich Group focuses on the neural mechanisms underpinning psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, aiming to improve our understanding of their profound potential to offer rapid and long-lasting relief from severe psychiatric symptoms.
