Bioeconomy

The bioeconomy is our path to decarbonisation  – as it will shift the global economy’s reliance on oil to biological materials. We will have a more sustainable, prosperous future by developing new materials, medicines and fuels from biological materials, or creating them from waste using biological processes.

AIBN is leading this space because we are able to study biological properties and map their processes at the nano-scale  –  in the gene, genome and protein level of organisms. These insights allow us to harness biological materials in a way that will change the game for our planet.

Case studies

AIBN researchers are working on ways to improve the efficiency of biofuel and chemical manufacture while recycling waste carbon – by better understanding the gene function of bacteria.
