AIBN researchers have developed a new way to produce nanoparticles that carry much higher drug concentrations.

AIBN researchers have discovered that hard nanoparticles can enter human cells, including cancer cells, much more easily than soft ‘squishy’ nanoparticles. The findings will help to guide the design of more potent, highly targeted treatments for a range of diseases.

AIBN group leader Dr Chunxia Zhao is developing novel bio-inspired functional materials for applications in controlled release and drug delivery. 

The University of Queensland’s (UQ) Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) research into drug delivery has received Australian Research Council (ARC) funding.
